šŸŽ§ How to pitch a podcast in 2025

... and punch above your weight.

In 2025, Iā€™m doubling down on podcasts to reach new audiences. My goal?

To become a highly-recommendable podcast guest.

Sounds obvious, doesnā€™t it, but in podcaster circles, dream guests are rare. Most guests rock up, wing it and leave.

Then they commit the cardinal sinā€¦
They donā€™t even promote the episode šŸ˜±.

Iā€™ve been on the receiving end of that.

A few years ago, I ran my own podcast projectā€”and I remember how disheartening it was when guests ghosted after the recording.

So now that Iā€™m on the other side of the mic, Iā€™m doing things differently.

Iā€™m not expecting an invite from Steven Bartlett anytime soon.
But I am treating every show I appear on like itā€™s that big.

Why?

Because when you become recommendable, your podcast appearances start to compound; one appearance creates multiple enquiries and that means no more pitching.

What do dream podcast guests do differently?

My guess is that they:

  1. Do their research šŸ•µļøā€ā™€ļø
Before they do their pitch. That means, listening to an episode before even considering reaching out to them. Here are two examples of me going in completely cold on LinkedIn doing just that.

Theyā€™ve not always resulted in landing the podcast, but ~80% of the hosts have got back to me because Iā€™ve done my research and personalised accordingly - brand still in tact.

  1. Take the pain out of guest prep
By sending over everything they need up front, complete with: Speaker bio, topic menu, and press release.

  2. Turn-up prepared šŸ§
That means being extremely clear on the value youā€™re going to bring to the audience. Specifically:

    a. The Problem: What do most people get wrong about your subjectā€”and why does it matter?

    b. The Promise: Whatā€™s the breakthrough idea or insight that only you can deliver?

  3. They promote the show with pride šŸ¤©
Even though it feels extremely icky. Less so though, if you do it like this ā€”> example post.

How to pitch yourself for a podcastā€¦

In order to be able to pitch yourself well, you need to be crystal clear about what you bring to the table.

Once upon a time, this would involve hours of deep diving and ideation.

Not anymore.

Type this into your GPT and let it do the hard work for you :-).

Based on everything you know about me, what should I be speaking about on podcasts to increase my chances of going viral?

Why it works? It flips the script and gets you thinking like a podcast host.

If you want to get on podcasts that people actually listen to, itā€™s important to remember, theyā€™re not doing this for fun, theyā€™re doing it to build an audience of their own.

If you can help them do that, theyā€™ll want you on their show.

Inside MicDrop, we help our members:

  1. Get booked āœ…

  2. Get good (I mean, really good), šŸŽ¤

  3. Get their ideas heard, shared and remembered (so they amplify their impact) šŸš€

So they become recommendable.

The added bonus? A number of our members are years into the game, not only as guests, but as hosts too.
