I'm in the middle of conducting an experiment called…

The one that got away

This week, I've spent a few hours:

  1. Going through every single person who has applied to join MicDrop over the last few years 🫠

  2. Finding all those I always thought would have made incredible community members 💙.

And then I'm dropping them an email with a simple (but rather uncomfortable) question:

What stopped you from joining?

It has been incredibly helpful exercise.

For some, it was a timing thing.
Health, bereavements, babies etc.

But by far the biggest theme has been centred around 'not getting the most out of it.'

🙀 What if I miss a session?
🙀 What if I fall behind?
🙀 What if I can't keep up? etc.

The rational thing to do is explain we're not a course, but perhaps I need to offer them a different question to ask themselves:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲?

It’s been such an insightful exercise, so I thought I’d share it with you so you can conduct your own.

Happy Bank Holiday!

Alex

P.s. In a similar vein, I have no doubt that some of you reading this would make amazing MicDrop members, but have never applied to join. So, if I may, it would be really helpful to know…

What’s stopped you from applying?

If you had 30 seconds to reply to this email, I’d really appreciate it. I’ll be personally reading and replying to every response.

We’ll be welcoming a small intake of new members in October. MicDrop is my community of founders building 6-figure speaking businesses. If you’d like to join us in October, click here.
