I don’t think I’ve ever seen such high levels of algorithm-related grievance of late.

I remember moaning publicly on LI about how terrible the algos were a few years back and a couple of people I really respected (and with significant followings) replied, quality always wins.

Well, now they’re complaining publicly about it too.
I know it's petty, but I can’t help but feel a sense of poetic justice 🤭.

Founder of The DO Lectures, David Hieatt posed in a recent email that…

ā

By next summer, your AI agent may be reading emails like this for you.

It’s stuck with me, for obvious reasons.
Not exactly great for the prospects of this newsletter, is it?!

At least, that was my first reaction.

On deeper reflection, I realised (and will be clinging on to the idea) that valuable newsletters will still get read (though AI will likely gate-keep what ā€˜valuable’ looks like).

But perhaps more importantly, while we might outsource some of our reading, we’re not going to be outsourcing our listening anytime soon.

Good job we’re all betting on our voices eh?!

And then a YouTube video popped up on my feed from an old client of mine, Alex MH Smith and I thought, if anyone has got a macro viewpoint that’s worth listening to on what’s going on and perhaps, what we’re in for, it would be him.

If you watch one thing this week, I highly recommend you watch thisā€¦šŸæ

When you watch Alex’s video, notice how he:

  1. Taps into pre-existing audience beliefs šŸ’
He opens by naming the exact feeling you’ve had: nothing you post lands any more.

ā€œYou’re probably not imagining it. But it isn’t really your fault.ā€

  2. Establishes credibility through vulnerability 🫶
He doesn't open with his success stories (and there are plenty).

ā€œI've spent the last 2 years or so watching my own numbers do exactly what yours are doing, so this isn't just talking theory here.ā€

  3. Uses the Past, Present, Future structure šŸŽ¢
Past: How did we get here?
    Present: Where are we now?
    Future: Where are we going?

I hope you found it useful.

Alex
